Southern Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients
sifted flour | 3 C | |
baking soda | 1/2 tsp | |
baking powder | 3 tsp | |
salt | 1/2 tsp | |
shortening, i.e. Crisco | 1/2 C | |
buttermilk | 1 1/2 C |
Delicious on their own with butter and honey, Biscuits with Sausage Gravy or Chicken Pot Pie with Biscuits…
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Mix thoroughly flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
- Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or fork until it forms pea-like, small pieces.
- Gradually stir in buttermilk until moistened.
- Turn onto floured surface. Cut into biscuit shape (a coffee mug works great).
- Bake 12-15 minutes.
